Historically, the Moken Sea Gypsies were renowned for their nomadic lifestyle, expertly navigating the islands and residing in various picturesque bays. However, today they've made a permanent home on Surin Tai, the larger of the southern islands.
Ao Bon Yai, the welcoming Moken village, is composed of 70 households, a vibrant community of 300 individuals. The village isn't just a residential hub; it also boasts essential community resources including a health center, a school, and an information center. It's a fascinating peek into a culturally rich and harmonious way of life.
