Khao Lak Off Road Safari: 4×4 Eco Adventure into Thailand’s Hidden Jungle
Step off the beaten path and dive into one of Thailand’s most thrilling nature experiences – the Khao Lak Off-Road Safari. This full-day eco-adventure takes you deep into the heart of Phutajor National Park, a rarely visited and stunningly beautiful region just south of Khao Sok. Perfect for travelers who love nature, photography, and a bit of adrenaline, this tour offers a one-of-a-kind glimpse into Thailand’s untouched rainforest.
Your journey begins with pickup from your hotel in Khao Lak. Our expert local guide will welcome you aboard a custom 4×4 safari truck, built to handle the rugged terrain of the jungle. As we leave the roads behind, the scenery quickly changes – palm plantations give way to thick tropical forest, and the sounds of civilization are replaced by the rustle of leaves and calls of birds overhead.
We’ll head deep into the Phutajor region, a part of the country few tourists ever explore. With its towering mountains, emerald rainforests, and hidden waterfalls, this park feels like a scene from a nature documentary. At over 600 meters above sea level, you’ll be treated to panoramic views across untouched valleys and lush jungle canopies – no buildings, no roads, just pure, pristine wilderness.
The region is home to an incredible variety of wildlife. Keep your eyes open for colorful birds, butterflies, gibbons, monitor lizards, and even rare wild cats that roam these protected lands. Because this area sees so few visitors, animals here are often more curious than afraid, making for unique and respectful wildlife encounters.
We’ll stop along the way for a short guided jungle walk, leading to a secluded waterfall hidden among the dense trees. The trail is gentle and suitable for most fitness levels. When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by the peaceful sound of falling water and cool mist on your skin – a refreshing and energizing moment in the heart of nature. It’s the kind of place that invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and simply take it all in.
Next, it’s time for a change of pace. We’ll head downriver for a tranquil canoe trip through Klong Sang Ne, often called “Little Amazon.” As you sit back and relax, your experienced paddle guide will steer you through winding waterways shaded by dense mangrove trees and lush jungle. This part of the rainforest is alive with bird calls, curious fish, and swaying vines – a truly immersive experience.
Around midday, we’ll pause for a traditional Thai lunch at a locally loved restaurant. Enjoy freshly prepared dishes featuring authentic flavors and local ingredients. Whether you're trying a spicy curry, crispy spring rolls, or stir-fried vegetables, every bite reflects the richness of Thai culinary heritage.
Later in the day, we’ll visit a serene Buddhist temple, beautifully nestled among the trees. It’s a peaceful stop that offers insight into the spiritual side of Thai life. Learn about local customs, admire the intricate temple architecture, and enjoy a moment of quiet reflection in a sacred space surrounded by nature.
Throughout the tour, there will be plenty of opportunities for photography. Capture wide-open jungle views, secret waterfalls, temple moments, and, if you’re lucky, some wildlife too. Unlike many crowded destinations, this tour offers space to explore and the chance to take truly special photos without dozens of tourists in the background.
By late afternoon, we’ll make our way back to Khao Lak, where you’ll return to your hotel with lasting memories of an unforgettable journey into Thailand’s natural heart. This tour is ideal for nature lovers, photographers, eco-conscious travelers, and families with older children looking for a genuine outdoor experience.

Customer Testimonials
Excellent company for airport transfers & excursions
We booked x2 transfers and the hong by starlight tour a few months before our holiday. Communication was quick and informative, and when we arrived to Thailand, kept regulaly informed by whats app. Transfers were alll on time, with clean and very good sized transport. However the highlight of our whole holiday was the John Gray Sea Canoes trip. A full day out with absolutely stunning scenery, we were allocated a private guide per x2 passengers who were so friendly and informative, taking photos and pointing out wildlife when out on the canoes. The food onboard was the best we have ever had on a boat trip, the coconut milk pudding with rainbow tapioca balls was deemed the best dessert ever by the kids! Making the kratong and floating it at sunset was a beautiful event and the lit up bioluminence after dark in the caves was again a memory we will all trwasuee forever. If you're going to book one trip, make it the John Gray Canoes - you wont regret it!
Ayutthaya
We would like to thank the Phuket Travel Store, especially Sunee for organizing some of our tours in Thailand. The team was really professional and we always had quick replies to our queries. We visited the Palais Royal de Bang Pa-In, in Ayutthaya the Wat Maha That and had a boat tour back to Bangkok with lunch. Our guide was kind and knowledgeable, we had a great day. Everything went well apart from the French guide not being available resulting in last minute changes and the boat/van not being completely wheelchair adapted. With help it was possible. I suggested either a car with a big booth for manual wheelchair users or a van with wheelchair ramp. Thank you for improving accessibility.
