“Unique Old Town, Fresh Market, Monk Offering and Temple Visits!” This truly is the best-kept secret excursion in southern Thailand! Join Phuket Travel Store on a journey into the heart of Takuapa Old Town, where culture, history, and daily life come together in one of the most authentic experiences you can find near Khao Lak or Phuket.
If you're looking to explore local life in Thailand, far away from tourist crowds, this Takuapa cultural tour offers the perfect opportunity. Walk the charming lanes of a nearly 200-year-old town, visit sacred temples, meet local artisans, and support community initiatives—all in one half-day or full-day adventure.
Step Back in Time in Takuapa Old Town
Begin your cultural journey with a guided walking tour of Takuapa Old Town, a quiet and historic community known for its beautifully preserved Sino-Portuguese architecture. With your local guide, stroll past wooden shop houses, colorful shutters, and colonial facades that reflect the area’s rich trading history.
This town dates back to the early 1900s and still retains its charm, offering a glimpse into the traditional Thai lifestyle. You’ll visit houses that are almost two centuries old, learn about local legends, and hear how Chinese and Thai cultures blended through migration, trade, and community ties.
Visit Two Temples – Thai Buddhist and Chinese Taoist
One of the highlights of this Takuapa temple tour is the rare opportunity to explore two very different temples—one Thai Buddhist and the other Chinese Taoist.
Your guide will help you understand the difference between the two traditions, from the architectural styles to the symbolic meanings and worship practices. The serene ambiance, incense-filled air, and beautiful murals offer insight into the spiritual heart of Thailand.
This portion of the tour is not just visually impressive—it’s deeply cultural, educational, and reflective of Thailand’s multicultural harmony.
Offer Alms to the Monks – A Peaceful Thai Tradition
As part of the monk offering experience, you’ll have the chance to offer alms (food donations) to Buddhist monks, a centuries-old practice that reflects generosity, humility, and spirituality in Thai culture.
Your guide will explain the ritual’s meaning, and you'll get to witness or participate in this early morning spiritual exchange. It’s a peaceful and respectful way to connect with local traditions in an authentic setting.
Visit the Local Market – Flavors, Colors & Daily Life
Next, immerse yourself in the flavors and colors of Takuapa’s fresh market. This is where locals come to shop, socialize, and source ingredients for daily cooking. You’ll see piles of tropical fruit, fresh herbs, spices, and hand-made snacks unique to the region.
A stop here isn’t just about food—it’s about understanding how Thai people live, shop, and eat. It’s also the perfect place to grab a local treat or try something new with guidance from your host.
Watch Traditional Moon Cakes Being Made
In a small family-run local bakery, you’ll watch the making of traditional Chinese Moon Cakes, still crafted by hand with recipes passed down through generations. These delicacies are more than just sweets—they’re part of Thailand’s deep cultural connection to its Chinese heritage.
This behind-the-scenes look offers another layer to your cultural immersion in Thailand, with a chance to taste freshly baked treats straight from the oven.
Support the Saori Foundation – A Story of Resilience
Your final stop is at the Saori Foundation, a local women’s weaving center with a heartwarming backstory. Founded after the 2004 tsunami, this workshop was inspired by a Japanese monk who taught survivors how to weave textiles and rebuild their lives.
Today, the center empowers women to create unique, hand-woven pieces using eco-friendly materials and traditional techniques. You’ll have the chance to see the weaving process and support the foundation by purchasing meaningful, handmade souvenirs.
This visit supports sustainable tourism and community development—values at the core of everything we do at Phuket Travel Store.

Customer Testimonials
Ayutthaya
We would like to thank the Phuket Travel Store, especially Sunee for organizing some of our tours in Thailand. The team was really professional and we always had quick replies to our queries. We visited the Palais Royal de Bang Pa-In, in Ayutthaya the Wat Maha That and had a boat tour back to Bangkok with lunch. Our guide was kind and knowledgeable, we had a great day. Everything went well apart from the French guide not being available resulting in last minute changes and the boat/van not being completely wheelchair adapted. With help it was possible. I suggested either a car with a big booth for manual wheelchair users or a van with wheelchair ramp. Thank you for improving accessibility.
Fantastic experience
Fantastic to deal with. We had a great time on all the tours. Very well organised and best informative and responsive
Catamaran trip to Similan Islands
I booked the Similan Islands tour to do on my birthday whilst on holiday in Phuket. The booking was well managed with all my questions answered quickly and my booking confirmed easily. It was a brilliant day and very well organised.
