Discover the spiritual heart of Northern Thailand on a Chiang Mai private temple tour with Phuket Travel Store. This half-day experience combines three of Chiang Mai’s most remarkable temples, taking you from historic temples in the Old City to the mountain-top sanctuary of Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. With this private tour, you can enjoy the sights at a comfortable pace while learning about the history, architecture and traditions that have shaped Chiang Mai for more than 700 years.
Whether this is your first visit to Chiang Mai or you want to explore the city beyond its famous markets and restaurants, this Doi Suthep and Chiang Mai temples tour is an excellent way to discover the city’s cultural heritage in just half a day.
Discover Chiang Mai’s Ancient Temples
Chiang Mai is famous for its magnificent Buddhist temples, known locally as wats. The city was founded more than seven centuries ago and remains one of Thailand’s most important cultural destinations. On this private Chiang Mai sightseeing tour, you will visit three significant temples, each offering a different insight into the history and traditions of Northern Thailand.
Your journey begins in the city with a visit to Wat Suan Dok, one of Chiang Mai’s most atmospheric temple complexes. Known for its large central stupa and beautiful white chedis, the temple was established during the Lanna period and has strong connections with the city’s royal and Buddhist history.
The peaceful grounds provide a wonderful contrast to the busy streets of Chiang Mai. Take time to admire the traditional architecture, explore the temple grounds and appreciate the rows of white stupas that create one of the city’s most distinctive temple landscapes.
Explore Wat Chedi Luang

Continue your Chiang Mai temple tour with a visit to Wat Chedi Luang, one of the most impressive historic temples in the Old City.
The temple is famous for its enormous ancient chedi, which once stood among the tallest structures in the historic Kingdom of Lanna. Construction of the original chedi began in the 15th century, making Wat Chedi Luang an important part of Chiang Mai’s long history.
As you explore the temple grounds, you can admire the impressive Lanna architecture and learn about the important role the temple has played in Chiang Mai’s religious and cultural life.
The combination of Wat Suan Dok and Wat Chedi Luang gives you an excellent introduction to the historic temples of central Chiang Mai before heading into the mountains.
Visit Wat Phra That Doi Suthep

The highlight of this Doi Suthep private tour is a visit to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, Chiang Mai’s most famous and sacred temple.
Located high on Doi Suthep Mountain, approximately 3,500 feet above sea level, the temple overlooks Chiang Mai and provides spectacular views across the city and surrounding countryside.
Reaching the temple is part of the experience. You can climb the famous 306-step Naga staircase, decorated with mythical dragon-headed serpents. The staircase is one of the most recognizable features of Doi Suthep and creates a memorable approach to the temple.
For many visitors, reaching the top and seeing the magnificent temple complex makes the climb well worthwhile.
See the Golden Lanna Pagoda

Inside Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, discover the magnificent copper-plated chedi, crowned by a five-tier golden parasol. The pagoda is one of the most important religious landmarks in Chiang Mai and is believed to contain sacred Buddha relics.
The brilliant gold architecture contrasts beautifully with the surrounding mountain landscape, creating one of the most memorable sights on a Chiang Mai cultural tour.
Take time to walk around the temple courtyard, admire the detailed Lanna-style decorations and experience the peaceful atmosphere of this important Buddhist sanctuary.
Enjoy Panoramic Views of Chiang Mai
One of the highlights of visiting Doi Suthep Temple is the spectacular viewpoint overlooking Chiang Mai.
On a clear day, you can see across much of the city and the surrounding countryside from the temple terrace. From this elevated position, it is easy to appreciate the size and beauty of Chiang Mai while seeing how the historic city sits between the mountains and lush northern landscape.
For photographers, the viewpoint also offers excellent opportunities to capture memorable photographs of Chiang Mai from Doi Suthep.

Customer Testimonials
Yaowarat Bangkok Food Tour
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This food tour was one of the highlights of our visit to Bangkok! We booked through Phuket Travel Store, and everything was perfectly arranged from start to finish. Our guide was excellent—friendly, informative, and full of interesting stories about Bangkok's Chinatown and its amazing food scene. We sampled a fantastic variety of authentic dishes at local eateries and street food stalls, all of which were delicious. The portions were generous, the pace was relaxed, and the experience felt very authentic. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Bangkok. Booking through Phuket Travel Store made everything easy, and we couldn't have been happier with the experience!
Excellent company for airport transfers & excursions
We booked x2 transfers and the hong by starlight tour a few months before our holiday. Communication was quick and informative, and when we arrived to Thailand, kept regulaly informed by whats app. Transfers were alll on time, with clean and very good sized transport. However the highlight of our whole holiday was the John Gray Sea Canoes trip. A full day out with absolutely stunning scenery, we were allocated a private guide per x2 passengers who were so friendly and informative, taking photos and pointing out wildlife when out on the canoes. The food onboard was the best we have ever had on a boat trip, the coconut milk pudding with rainbow tapioca balls was deemed the best dessert ever by the kids! Making the kratong and floating it at sunset was a beautiful event and the lit up bioluminence after dark in the caves was again a memory we will all trwasuee forever. If you're going to book one trip, make it the John Gray Canoes - you wont regret it!
Excellent day!
Excellent day by boat to visit the 4 islands, the guide was super friendly and welcoming. The day was rhythmic but lorgic with 4 islands to visit! And end around 2:30 pm so it’s rather nice to return quietly to the hotel not too late! Nice discovery, I recommend!
