🛶 Discover 3 Distinct Floating Markets Near Bangkok
Our curated tour takes you to three unique floating markets, each offering a different atmosphere and local flavor.
- Tha Kha Floating Market: A picturesque canal market where row boats are packed with fresh produce, herbs, and snacks. Here, you’ll see the barter system in action, as vendors exchange goods without money—just like in the old days. It’s a postcard-perfect place where local farmers gather to trade and connect.
- Bang Noi Floating Market: A quieter, more laid-back market nestled in a peaceful riverside community. This is where you can soak up the simple beauty of canal life, enjoy a coffee by the water, and sample rare Thai desserts made with generations-old recipes.
- Amphawa Floating Market: The liveliest and largest of the three. Amphawa is a bustling hub of street food, grilled seafood, souvenirs, and boat rides, filled with both locals and Thai tourists. Its evening market vibes and canal-front eateries make it a memorable stop.
🍳 Watch Floating Kitchens in Action
What makes this floating market tour near Bangkok so special is the chance to watch food being prepared right from the boats. Thai locals call this a “floating kitchen”, and it’s a fascinating sight. Imagine seeing a vendor cook mackerel fried rice, banana in coconut milk, or spicy noodles over an open flame—all from a small boat.
The flavors are unmatched, made with ingredients sourced straight from the region: homegrown herbs, just-picked vegetables, and seafood caught the same morning from the Gulf of Thailand. You’ll taste food here you won’t find anywhere else.
🚂 Mae Klong Railway Market – The Train That Passes Through Stalls
Another unforgettable stop on our Bangkok offbeat food tour is the Mae Klong Railway Market. This is the only market in Thailand built directly on a train track. Several times a day, a train approaches slowly, and in under five minutes, vendors fold up their stalls, let the train pass, then reopen as if nothing happened. It’s a surreal sight—and one of Thailand’s most iconic moments. Get your camera ready for this one!
🌴 Row Boat Ride Into a Coconut Orchard
At one of the floating markets, you’ll take a row boat through palm-lined canals into a hidden coconut orchard. Along the way, you’ll pass local homes and gardens. The boat pulls up at a villager’s home, where you’ll learn how traditional coconut palm sugar is made from scratch using age-old methods. It’s not just a food experience—it’s a window into rural Thai life.
🧘 Visit the “Temple in a Tree” – Wat Bang Kung
The tour also includes a stop at one of Thailand’s hidden spiritual gems: Wat Bang Kung, a 400-year-old temple wrapped in the roots of a giant banyan tree. Known as the “Temple in a Tree”, it’s a mystical and peaceful place with faded but beautiful murals depicting Buddha’s life. This sacred site feels like stepping into a forgotten world.
🎵 Step Back in Time with Old-School Floating Market Charm
As you wander through the markets, you’ll notice the atmosphere feels like a scene from decades ago. Wooden houses built in the 1960s, old record players spinning Thai classics, and friendly vendors who’ve been there for generations make this tour feel like time travel with a delicious twist.

Customer Testimonials
Ayutthaya
We would like to thank the Phuket Travel Store, especially Sunee for organizing some of our tours in Thailand. The team was really professional and we always had quick replies to our queries. We visited the Palais Royal de Bang Pa-In, in Ayutthaya the Wat Maha That and had a boat tour back to Bangkok with lunch. Our guide was kind and knowledgeable, we had a great day. Everything went well apart from the French guide not being available resulting in last minute changes and the boat/van not being completely wheelchair adapted. With help it was possible. I suggested either a car with a big booth for manual wheelchair users or a van with wheelchair ramp. Thank you for improving accessibility.
Fantastic experience
Fantastic to deal with. We had a great time on all the tours. Very well organised and best informative and responsive
Catamaran trip to Similan Islands
I booked the Similan Islands tour to do on my birthday whilst on holiday in Phuket. The booking was well managed with all my questions answered quickly and my booking confirmed easily. It was a brilliant day and very well organised.
