Ancient Ayutthaya Food And History Tour – A Timeless Taste of Thailand’s Past

Discover the perfect blend of culture, cuisine, and history with our Ancient Ayutthaya Food And History Tour, a must-do experience offered by Phuket Travel Store. Whether you're a history buff, a food lover, or a curious traveler seeking authentic experiences beyond the tourist trail, this tour will take you on a journey through the heart of Thailand’s former capital and its rich culinary traditions.

Why Visit Ayutthaya?

Ayutthaya Historical Park is one of Thailand's most significant UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Just 1.5 hours north of Bangkok, this ancient city was once the flourishing capital of the Siamese kingdom. For over 400 years, Ayutthaya stood as a center of art, trade, and culture before being destroyed in the 18th century. Today, its spectacular ruins—temples, statues, and royal complexes—remain scattered throughout the city, offering a fascinating look into Thailand’s glorious past.

This full-day tour lets you explore the temple ruins of Ayutthaya while also diving into another aspect that defines Thai identity: its food. Unlike standard sightseeing packages, this unique experience blends historical discovery with a local food journey, making it a top-rated Ayutthaya day trip from Bangkok.

Highlights of the Ancient Ayutthaya Food & History Tour

✅ Visit 3 Iconic Ayutthaya Temples

Step back in time as you explore three of the most iconic temple complexes in Ayutthaya:

  • Wat Mahathat
  • Wat Phra Si Sanphet
  • Wat Chaiwatthanaram

Each temple visit includes insightful storytelling from your local guide, who will help you understand the cultural and historical significance of these magnificent ruins.

✅ Authentic Thai Cuisine at Hidden Local Eateries

Food is central to Thai life, and Ayutthaya offers a unique regional cuisine that blends central Thai flavors with ancient royal influences. On this tour, we take you to handpicked restaurants that locals have frequented for generations. You’ll enjoy:

  • Ayutthaya-style boat noodles
  • Grilled river prawns
  • Roti Sai Mai
  • Traditional herbal drinks

Rather than eating at touristy venues, you’ll dine at places where recipes have been passed down through families. This adds depth to your culinary experience while supporting small local businesses.

✅ Scenic Longtail Boat Ride Around Ayutthaya

Hop aboard a traditional Thai longtail boat for a relaxing cruise around the historic island of Ayutthaya. The Chao Phraya River, along with its tributaries, encircles much of the old city. As you drift past ancient ruins, riverside homes, and lush greenery, you’ll witness the slower pace of life that defines rural Thailand.

The boat ride also offers a unique vantage point of temples and chedis not always visible from the roads, providing fantastic opportunities for photography. This peaceful ride is the perfect mid-tour break to reflect, relax, and capture the beauty of Ayutthaya from the water.

Ayutthaya

We would like to thank the Phuket Travel Store, especially Sunee for organizing some of our tours in Thailand. The team was really professional and we always had quick replies to our queries. We visited the Palais Royal de Bang Pa-In, in Ayutthaya the Wat Maha That and had a boat tour back to Bangkok with lunch. Our guide was kind and knowledgeable, we had a great day. Everything went well apart from the French guide not being available resulting in last minute changes and the boat/van not being completely wheelchair adapted. With help it was possible. I suggested either a car with a big booth for manual wheelchair users or a van with wheelchair ramp. Thank you for improving accessibility.
